Updated: Jun 23, 2023

Disney On Ice, a crowd favourite Disney performance - the crowd being adorable little princes and princesses and their entourage - has returned to Singapore post pandemic!

The last time I saw this show was back in 2019 before Covid-19 hit the streets. I hadn't seen the show prior to that run in more than 10 years, I used to love going to Disney On Ice shows with my parents as a kid. You can say I went in as a veteran audience member haha. Scroll on and I'll give you all the details of the show, rules to bear in mind and what to expect from this magical, fun family-friendly event!

Now showing from 11-19 March 2023, Disney On Ice presents Mickey and Friends! A wonderful celebration of all the lovely memories of Mickey's pals - The Toy Story gang, Moana and Maui, Elsa and Anna, Tiana, and many more! There are 3 showtimes to choose from: 10:30am, 2:30pm or 6:30pm on select dates. I went on 12 March, a Sunday at 10.30am, it wasn't too packed and managed to score great seats in section 113 (VIP). We were seated close enough to see the characters' facial expressions and costume details which I didn't get to appreciate in 2019 (Cat 2 seats).

If it is your first time to Disney On Ice and you have little ones

Price breakdown and seating chart is as seen below, taken from Ticketmaster's website.

The energy in the room was electric, thanks to the enthusiasm from the emcees, Kate and Alex. My absolute top 3 favourite things about Disney On Ice, which I think you should definitely anticipate for were....

The BEAUTIFUL Costumes

I have to give an extra round of applause, standing ovation, and if I may be so bold, "Slaaayyy" to the costume design team that created the costumes for the show! The cast and backup performers omg they looked absolutely amazing in all the costumes. The swooshy skirts on the princesses gave that extra girliness, flare, angelic vibe which just enhanced the choreography when they glide on the ice.

The cheerleader outfits at the beginning of the show were so fun too! I love the pop of green and orange against the cool hues of Mickey's outfit, such a good contrast. And how obsessed was I when every costume had sparkles and bling? Extremely.

The Audience Participation Segments

Disney is no stranger to interactive guest experience and when you have an audience of wide eyed kids hooked up on Mickey light sticks and popcorn, you best be sure that Disney will deliver! The emcees had their trusty Mouse-Pads which controlled the big screen, showing short clips of Walt, Mickey, Goofy during the good ol' times, initiated by the Fab Four's favourite memories. The skaters also hyped up the kids in the crowd to get up and dance along to the music at the start of the show, which added to the fun!

Also, Midway before Moana's segment, they did an audience vote on which couple's outfit we'd like to see Mickey and Minnie wear! I thought that was adorable and so fun; they didn't do that last time.

The CAST

The show's sequence was similar to the one in 2019, with a few tweaks here and there. Tiana got a full segment for her song Almost There, opening up for the rest of the princesses' short segments. Beloved sisters, Anna and Elsa graced the stage with their story reminding us that true love need not be romantic. And my favourite, the strong and determined Moana, chosen by the ocean, took the stage with her hit song "How Far I'll Go". Even Dory got to tell her story too! But what all these ladies and the other princesses, toys, ocean friends and emotions had in common that stood out to me was their audience engagement!

It's hard to skate perfectly, be 'best friends with a character' and still wear a smile, but to know how to channel your character's energy towards the audience so that they get to feel the character in a short amount of time, is a next level skill. I loved that Moana showed her bewonderment in "How Far I'll Go", frustration and confusion in "You're Welcome" and her joy when she saved Te'Fiti.

Needless to say, Disney On Ice is a super fun, lighthearted, enchanting show that's suitable for Disney lovers of all ages!

However, do take note of some of these important details:

  • No cameras and video recorders are allowed into the stadium, this is a rule by Sports Hub to discourage professional photography & videography. You are allowed to take videos and photographs using your phones but audience members are not encouraged to lift up their arms which could block the view of others.

  • Doors open 1 hr before show time, you can settle in, delight in the disney music soundtrack that's playing, grab some snacks, merchandise or a Mickey lightstick.

  • No outside food & drinks, including personal water bottles are allowed into the theatre. They will ask you to dispose of your water and food if you try to bring it in. But you are able to purchase food & drinks at the concession stand before the show or during intermission.

  • Bring a JACKET if you get cold easily! Haha this goes without saying but it is cold in the Indoor Stadium.

I hope I did a good job at enticing you to attend this show at least once; let me know in the comments below or drop me an email if you have any questions. And don't worry, even if you miss this round of shows fret not, Disney On Ice returns annually around this time of the year so you will definitely get a chance again.

Well that's all from me folks, buh-bye now

See ya real soon!

And remember your daily scoop of pixie dust! ;)
