#NickelocityGoes: Disney In Concert - A Dream is Wish

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

Last night, I joined my fellow Disney fanatics at the Marina Bay Sands Expo Hall for a night of music and magic. The Disney in Concert: A Dream is a Wish premiered on June 18 & 19, 2022. Disney scores from some of the most beloved Disney Classics like Cinderella, Moana and Coco and even Frozen 2 (which is one of my faves), this is a concert for - as I like to call it - "kids of all ages".

A 45-piece orchestra accompanied these beautiful scores, married beautifully with scenes from the films, screened behind them.

The Voices of the Show

A fabulous team of four vocalists - Aaron Philips, Lisa Livesay, Andrew Johnson and Whitney Claire Kaufman brought the film tracks to life..

Lisa Livesay and her angelic voice radiated through the hall as she sang Disney Princess hits from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Frozen. My favourite number was when she sang "Part of Your World", Jodi Benson would be proud. Her vocals made me tear up and it was only the first song of the night!

Whitney Claire Kaufman's clear and powerful voice brought honor to amazing ballads like "Into the Unknown", "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and "How Far I'll Go". Her performance was spectacular, really diving into the characters' personalities and letting those emotions come through. I loved when she did her rendition of Ursula's evil laugh in Poor Unfortunate Souls!

Andrew Johnson, another familiar face from the previous Disney in Concert: Mafical Music from the Movies held at the Esplanade Theater back in February 2022. His brings a fun and upbeat energy to lively Disney songs but his performance in the "Circle of Life" number was the highlight!

Aaron Philips was the funniest! He added such personality to the songs and clearly had a lot of fun on stage singing his heart out. He has such great versatile vocals and style that really shine through in songs like "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", "Friend Like Me" and many more. He even had that Elton John kind of raspy baritone edge to it during the Lion King segment. I love it!

Comparing it to the Music from the Movies concert I attended in February earlier this year, last night's performance takes the lead for a great all in all Disney experience. They had bubbles and fake snow effects too during some of the numbers. The songs chosen and the synchronisation between the film snippets and the music were much better too. There was also a good mix of songs with vocals and instrumentals that really added to the storytelling element as you ran through the emotions you felt when you watch the film scenes. Plus, the ambiance was much more relaxed and casual to enjoy the family friendly film soundtracks. I mean Disney, after all, is home to the Happiest Place on Earth right? So one would imagine a theater performance to be fun and enjoyable too.

I mean...look at this beauty of a moment I snapped during "How Far I'll Go". Moana in thsi scene was a total mood, and yes I feel you girl!

Event Details

Tickets for this event can be purchased on Sistic. This concert has come to Singapore before so hopefully you get a chance to catch this next round!

Pre-event COVID-19 testing was not required for this event, we just had to show our TraceTogether vaccination status.

We arrived about an hour early before the start of the show, and I highly recommend it especially if you're driving on a weekend. One of our friends got stuck waiting for parking for an hour and missed the front part of the show! The entrance to the Expo and Convention Halls was convenient, just make a left after you tap out of the Bayfront MRT gantry. Once you enter the Shoppes, it's on the left.

No food and drink is allowed in the Expo Hall however, they do let you bring in plain water. There's a quick bag check at the door before you enter the seating area. Once that's all cleared, you're good to go! We were told by the ushers that photography was allowed (without flash) but no video-taking, probably for music copyright reasons.

All in all, it was a magical night and a great 110-minute getaway from reality.

See ya real soon!

And remember your daily scoop of pixie dust! ;)
