DisneyBounding: What is it and why do it?

One of my favourite types of content to create for Instagram is my Disneybound outfits! What is DisneyBound and how did this little cultural phenomenom take over the Disney social media scene?

What is DisneyBounding?

It all started when Leslie Kay, creator of the term "DisneyBound" decided to create outfits inspired by Disney characters using items in her closet as she packed for a trip to Disney World, hence "Disney Bound" aka on the way to Disney.

This quickly became popular amongst Disney Parks guests since it adds a little more magic to their trip and c'mon, who doesn't love to dress up and be a princess? It's so versatile too, you can take a red top and dress as Winnie the Pooh, or Moana etc. You can be as accurate as you'd like to the character or give it your own fashionable spin to express yourself!

Plus, it's a great way to utilise those gorgeous Loungefly and Danielle Nicole bags you see all over social media. There are even accounts from Disney Influencers solely dedicated to disneybounding as different characters!

You can even find a matching backdrop in the parks and take an AMAZING photo like Magicallyvicc here!

Why Not Just Wear The Costume?

The success of Disneybounding is because it allows guests to express themselves whilst keeping to Disney's strict guidelines. Not even kidding, there is a Disney Dress Code. However, there are some exceptions which you can read about in the link provided.

Basically, guests aged 14 and above are not allowed to dress in cosplay/costumes/full length gowns into the theme parks i.e. you can't wear a Belle cosplay gown/costume into the parks.

This is because Disney does not want adults to confuse the kids since they are paying professionally trained Cast Members to play the role of these characters. Copyright issues are probably another reason too.

I absolutely love finding pieces in my closet (maybe purchasing an extra 1-2 items if I don't have that colour of clothing) and putting together an outfit. But of course, having a castle behind me in the background would tie things together much better. To check out my other DisneyBound outfits, head over to my Instagram @Nickelocity.

Now, it's totally cool if you don't want to pack 10 different outfits just for a 4 day vacation or have to pack so many accessories, luggage space is precious especially for international flights. But, I highly recommend putting together at least one DisneyBound outfit for your next trip to Disneyland/Disneyworld for that awesome photo in front of the castle. It really does add that dash of pixie dust.

I hope this helped you understand one of the newer pop culture phenomenoms in the Disney landscape and that you'll find the inspiration to come up with your own awesome outfit!

Until then...

See ya real soon!

And remember your daily scoop of pixie dust! ;)
